IT Project Manager

IT Project Manager needed in Central Michigan! 

We are seeking a IT Project Manager to lead the Data Center migration program office for one of our direct clients in Central Michigan! The program office will be the central coordination point for all projects/workstreams within the Data Center Program, providing specialist expertise and facilitation across the program and its projects. The manager of the program office may also act as deputy to the program manager. The program office provides strategic and operational support to the Data Center program. This typically involves helping the program and projects perform appropriate levels of - tracking and reporting, information management, financial accounting, risks and issue management, quality control, change control and benefits tracking. 

Additional Responsibilities Include (under guidance of the Program Manager):
  • May have responsibility for a set of interrelated projects of large size and/or high complexity, and/or multiple projects of mixed complexity levels and sizes. 
  • May also provide support to one or more projects of high complexity as part of a portfolio or program team, under the direction of senior level leadership 
  • Responsible for achieving program and project objectives and completion on time, on budget, and in conformance to Company methodologies and processes 
  • Performs responsibilities with a significant degree of independence and expertise in managing multiple competing objectives and communicates complex technical information in clear and unambiguous terms to management and end user personnel. 
  • Develop and maintain project cost estimates, budgets and financial forecasts 
  • Responsible for performance against financial parameters and monitoring and reporting on projects 
  • Models the behaviors and mentors more junior colleagues in the concepts and application of a project focused culture within the Information Technology department 
  • Oversee the creation of project artifacts, such as project plans, metrics, team and stakeholder communications, resource requirements and schedules 
  • Identify and acquire project resources 
  • Monitor and report project performance against the project plan and take corrective action when required 
  • Ensure that requirements are developed, understood and prioritized 
  • Ensure that deliverables meet the agreed upon requirements and are completed on schedule, within budget, and with the defined level of quality 
  • Manage the project risk, issue and change request process
  • Manage the work of project-based resources and the day-to-day interactions with suppliers 
  • Identify and highlight risks and issues within the program and escalate appropriately 
  • Devise effective mitigation and escalation strategies to address risks 
  • Lead regular program/project reviews with project sponsors and stakeholders 
  • Propose governance structures and processes to drive and manage the project 
  • Drive projects through project governance methodology and ensure compliance to stage gates 
  • Capture lessons learned and communicate to the PMO and EPMO for sharing with other projects

Required Skills:
  • Minimum of 10+ years’ Work Experience required 
  • 10+ years’ experience as a Program or Project Manager for multiple, large-scale IT Infrastructure implementation projects required 
  • Experience managing projects to migrate an on-premise data center to a collocated data center OR VMware Cloud 
  • Experience managing projects to migrate/build disaster recovery infrastructure in a collocated data center or VMware Cloud 
  • Must demonstrate action-oriented leadership when faced with a project roadblock 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required to be successful 
  • Experience with Tier-1 consulting or IT Infrastructure implementation partners is desirable 
  • Experience in Utility industry is desirable 
  • Extensive knowledge and expertise in the use of project management methodologies and tools 
  • Experience with planning and managing all phases of IT Infrastructure projects 
  • Demonstrated understanding of leadership principles, resource management practices, and organizational change management techniques 
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate activities within a shared services organization model
